Icarus Video, Scotland Report and Lupinder's Tent at Sharing the Field

We are coming off of a busy several weeks of performances, youth programs, and a trip to Scotland! From Sheet Harbour to New Glasgow, PEI and then to (old) Glasgow, Scotland this is our first week where we are not on the move!

NS delegation - Stephanie Yee, Lily Falk, Franziska Glen, Alex McLean, Coral Maloney and Dustin Harvey (hiding behind the camera)

On Monday we got back from a whirlwind week in Glasgow, Scotland as delegates to the Take Me Somewhere festival. Along with Nova Scotian artists Stephanie Yee, Coral Maloney, Dustin Harvey of Xosecret Theatre, and Alex McLean of Zuppa Theatre we attend 5 days of performances, artist talks, pitch sessions and networking events. We saw an amazing curation of dance, performance art and theatre and are feeling very creatively nourished.

We were also fortunate to meet in person and be hosted by Scottish playwright Linda McLean. Earlier this year, Lily and Linda met at an online playwrights exchange organized by Playwrights Guild of Canada and Playwright’s Studio Scotland. They kept in touch and when we found out we were traveling to Glasgow, Linda offered to host us! We had an absolute blast getting to know Linda better, turns out she also has an affinity for small knitted critters.

Lupinder’s Tent at Sharing the Field

Earlier this month Franziska and Lily brought Lupinder’s Tent to New Glasgow, PEI for the River Clyde Arts’ annual fall gathering, Sharing the Field. Over the course of the day we welcomed many children, families and some canny rodents into the tent. We had a blast performing as part of this larger festival centered around local agriculture, food systems and community exchange.

New Project in Development with Playwright Ali Joy Richardson

We are excited to announce that Gale Force Theatre is working on a new play by Ali Joy Richardson! Last December she approached us with a project in mind about female friendship and we were able to support her with a commission grant from Arts Nova Scotia. We have had the pleasure of working with Ali Joy in the past as a dramaturge for Honey Harbour and While We Wait. We look forward to seeing how this play develops.

Youth Programs Underway

Both of our outdoor evening youth programs, Adventures in Outdoor Theatre and Gale Force Theatre Young Company are well under way. Next week our 11-13 year olds in Adventures in Outdoor Theatre will perform their spooky (albeit silly) piece that they have been working on for the last two months!
