Artists in Residence at Wonder'neath, Spring Fling Afternoon Tea and Young Company Underway

I hope this letter finds you warm and cozy as the snow and cold temperatures roll into the Maritimes.

Wonder’neath Residency

Lily and I kicked off the new year as artists in residence to Wonder’neath, a community arts hub in the North End of Halifax. Wonder’neath is now home to the Canadian collection of the Sketch Book Project, an archive of over 2,000 sketch books submitted by children, professionals and hobbyists over a 15 year period. We spent the last couple of weeks combing through this incredible collection of art and reaching out to some of the artists that submitted sketchbooks. We will be back for a final two weeks in March when we will have a public presentation of the work we created inspired by the collection!

The Sketchbook library is open to the public on Wednesdays 4:30-7:30pm and Fridays 2-4:30pm. Go check it out!

Spring Fling Tea Fundraiser

It is that time of year again, we are holding our afternoon tea fundraiser in support of our youth programs! Join us on Sunday, March 22nd at the Local Council of Women house in Halifax for tea, sandwiches and sweet treats! We will have two seatings, one at 1:30pm and the second at 3:30pm. All the proceeds go to running our youth programs including hiring guest teachers, subsidizing our overnight Deanery weekend and running our Young Company.

Gale Force Young Company

Our fabulous Young Company! (minus Cass and Franziska)

We have hit the ground running with our Young Company since coming back from the holidays. Our Young Company is in the process of creating an original play around the theme of fear to be presented in schools to grades 1-3 during our spring tour in April. We have been asking ourselves what we fear, what scared us when we were younger and how we learn not to be ruled by our fears. I am always blown away with some of the complex conversations we have with our teens.

That’s all folks!
